Research Program Winter-Spring 2024

Welcome to the UCSD Cool Star Lab Winter-Spring 2024 Undergraduate Research program!

We are conducting a NASA-funded project to reduce over 20 years of spectral data obtained with the IRTF/SpeX instrument, contained in the IRTF Legacy and IRTF IRSA Archives. We are using an in-development, python-based software package called pyspextool to conduct the batch reductions, doing quality assurance (QA) checks on the data, and iterating as needed. In addition, we will be analyzing some of the spectral data we reduce as means of scientifically validating our processes using tools contained (and to be developed!) in the SPLAT software package.
